Innovative folk artist Hannah James reunites with dynamic cellist Toby Kuhn for a series of live shows celebrating their new album, Where All Our Names Belong. Together they weave a rich tapestry of song, story, and rhythm - Hannah’s expressive voice, accordion, and percussive dance entwined with Toby’s vivid, unorthodox cello delivery.
Hannah is an award-winning musician, dancer, songwriter and singer, a creative force renowned for her work in Lady Maisery and collaborations with Seasick Steve, Maddy Prior and Songs of Separation with Eliza Carthy, Karine Polwart and others. Toby is an award-winning French cellist whose post-classical, inventive, improvisational playing has taken him all across the globe.
In a journey through sound, texture, emotion and rhythm, Hannah and Toby navigate the paths of growth, discovery, darkness and light, exploring the dialogue of cello, voice, accordion and foot percussion in new and unexpected ways. Effortlessly blending, the pair play and dance through a series thoughtful tunes, soulful songs and joyful set-pieces in which Hannah’s vocal mastery is underpinned by Toby’s unorthodox delivery, weaving intricate layers of harmony and melody together to the beat and swish of percussive dance.
Their performances unfold as an immersive journey: soulful songs, playful dances, and unexpected textures that shift effortlessly between delicacy and power. Ever curious, ever inventive, Hannah and Toby blur the lines between tradition and innovation, inviting audiences into moments of connection, discovery, and joy. They offer an entirely novel, delicate, grounded and powerful performance.
